On August 1, 2022, Bradley lovers traveled across the sands of time with historian Robert Flood, who led a virtual tour of the early Bradley Beachfront from the 1870s thru the 1920s.
Bob has been researching local history with his wife Susan for decades.
The Flood family has lived in the Jersey Shore area since the 1700s. Bob’s interest in local Bradley Beach history developed by listening to stories shared by his Grandfather Joseph P. Flood, who was born in Ocean Park prior to its 1893 incorporation as part of the new borough of Bradley Beach. His study of local history was further encouraged by Mrs. Hannah Newman and Mrs. Regina McNierney, two of his teachers at Bradley Beach Grammar School. In 1958, Bob read Mary Alice McNierney’s (Regina’s daughter) 1944 history of Bradley Beach entitled “Turning Back the Pages” and the 1947 borough history written by Beverly Wier, a physical education teacher at BBGS.
Bob majored in American history at St. Peter’s University and received a master’s degree in American history at Rutger’s. He and Susan collect antique postcards, regularly visit historical sites around the country and are members of two Civil War Roundtables. They regularly take Osher classes at William & Mary University in Williamsburg, Virginia.Travel across the sands of time with historian Robert Flood and his wife Susan, who have been researching local history for decades.
