Hartson & Irene

According to Hartson Poland, his great grandparents, Hartson “Hardy” and Irene, founded a house-moving business in Neptune back in 1886. It was relocated to Brinley Avenue just east of where the Bank of America is today (522 Main Street). Sons Henry and Jimmy ran the business from the Brinley Avenue location close to the railroad tracks until sometime in the 1960s when the bank made them an offer they could not refuse. They moved the business to Belmar on Sixteenth Street west of the train tracks. In the early 1990s, the business was finally sold after four generations of operation.
